machine vision system applications
Use this page to match machine vision system applications—including machine vision system for automatic inspection—to the part route, lighting and motion that actually reach the camera. Upstream fixtures and downstream reject bins change the optical method more than a catalogue industry name. We describe how to confirm those conditions; we do not claim a validated output for an unnamed plant.
Material route
- Operating context
- Automatic inspection sits after forming, machining, filling or assembly. The material route is the sequence of surfaces the camera will see: top face, edge, underside if flipped, and any occlusion from a gripper. A second SKU that shares the same fixture still needs its own lighting check if color or specular behavior changes.

Material route: Design input
Describe how the part arrives: belt, pallet, walking beam or robot place. Give conveyor speed and the distance from trigger to inspection to reject. State whether the defect is a print or stain (2D contrast) or a dent, warp or fill-height error (3D height). Include representative production samples, not only clean first-article pieces. Note ambient lighting, vibration and whether the line accelerates during a shift. Throughput should be inspected parts per hour at that speed, not a datasheet cycle time.

Supplier answer
The supplier must say how profile spacing or exposure is calculated from the stated speed, which surfaces will be in the detection trial, and which upstream/downstream interfaces they will wire. For automatic inspection, they should show how a failing part is tracked to the reject bin and what happens when the bin is full. Cooling water, compressed air demand and footprint belong on the same reply as the optical method. If they cite a published scan rate in kHz, they must still attach that rate to your height range and encoder pulse.

Open deviation
A 2D station that works on a high-contrast label can miss a shallow dent on brushed metal. A 3D profiler that works on a matte casting can lose a transparent blister. Do not treat those as the same application family. If the supplier has not seen the occluded face or the wet surface, keep the quote as an assumption, not as an accepted method.
